When Gulsoom was 15, she was forced to marry a 40-year-old man. Her husband was an addict who regularly beat her. Feeling trapped in her abusive marriage, Gulsoom attempted suicide by setting herself on fire.

Afghan women deserve to live free from abuse. »

More and more Afghan women are resorting to suicide in order to escape abuse within forced marriages. The situation worsened last year when the Karzai government passed a law legalizing marital rape. For many women, death seems like the only way out.

Women should not be treated as second-class citizens. But until the Karzai government enforces protection of womens' rights and outlaws domestic violence, the women of Afghanistan will continue to seek refuge through suicide.

Tell the President of Afghanistan that women need to be protected from violence and abuse. »

Gospel for Asia - Missionary & Christian Homes burned in Bangladesh

Missionary's and Christians' Homes Burned in Bangladesh

March 3, 2010
Anti-Christian extremists burned down several homes of Christians in Bangladesh earlier this week. Most people in Bangladesh live in simple structures like the one shown here.
A Gospel for Asia–supported missionary and several Christian families are homeless after anti-Christian extremists burned down their homes earlier this week. The attacks occurred in Bangladesh near the border with India.
Missionary Iqbal Hasan is the pastor of a church in this area.
The homes were completely destroyed, and the Christians could not salvage any of their belongings.
Gospel for Asia ministry leaders are providing for the immediate needs of the affected Christians, and they will help them rebuild once it becomes safe to do so.
In the meantime, they request prayer for comfort and for God's provision. Also pray for those who are persecuting these believers to come to know Him.

Be an advocate for the Voice of the Martyrs

Be-A-Voice - Be-A-Voice for Christian Prisoners
Be-A-Voice Network - The Voice of the Martyrs

BE AN ADVOCATE FOR OUR IMPRISONED BROTHERS AND SISTERS

March 01, 2010
Dear Friends:
One feature of the Be-A-Voice Network is that it provides volunteers the opportunity to write to Christians who are imprisoned for their faith. A price cannot be placed on the joy and encouragement these letters bring our imprisoned brothers and sisters. They are often told by authorities that they are forgotten, that no one knows or cares about them. Your letters let the prisoners know that other Christians care about them and pray for them. Family photos and greeting cards are especially cherished.

We cannot guarantee that every letter will be received by the prisoner to whom you write. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage you to make the effort — someone will likely read it.

We also encourage you to write to government officials on behalf of Christian prisoners. By becoming an "advocate," you are entering into the vital ministry of intercession for and solidarity with those who suffer for their fai th in Christ.

Your involvement makes a difference:
• It testifies of the love and unity found among followers of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
• It is a witness to imprisoned Christians and authorities you write to as well as to authorities who may censor letters intended for the prisoner.
• It can result in better treatment for a prisoner.

Authorities in many nations are sensitive about their image abroad. When they realize outsiders are monitoring a prisoner’s situation, their treatment of the prisoner may improve.

We have a clear scriptural mandate for this kind of ministry. Please read and pray through the following verses, which will help you understand the role you are undertaking. This is no doubt front-line spiritual warfare, and you will want to pray through the thoughts you express in your letter.

Hebrews 13:3, Matthew 25:34–40, Matthew 5:10, 1 Peter 3:13–17, 1 Peter 4:12–14.
