BE AN ADVOCATE FOR OUR IMPRISONED BROTHERS AND SISTERS | March 01, 2010 | ||
Dear Friends:  One feature of the Be-A-Voice Network is that it provides volunteers the opportunity to write to Christians who are imprisoned for their faith. A price cannot be placed on the joy and encouragement these letters bring our imprisoned brothers and sisters. They are often told by authorities that they are forgotten, that no one knows or cares about them. Your letters let the prisoners know that other Christians care about them and pray for them. Family photos and greeting cards are especially cherished. We cannot guarantee that every letter will be received by the prisoner to whom you write. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage you to make the effort — someone will likely read it. We also encourage you to write to government officials on behalf of Christian prisoners. By becoming an "advocate," you are entering into the vital ministry of intercession for and solidarity with those who suffer for their fai th in Christ. Your involvement makes a difference: • It testifies of the love and unity found among followers of Jesus Christ throughout the world. • It is a witness to imprisoned Christians and authorities you write to as well as to authorities who may censor letters intended for the prisoner. • It can result in better treatment for a prisoner. Authorities in many nations are sensitive about their image abroad. When they realize outsiders are monitoring a prisoner’s situation, their treatment of the prisoner may improve. We have a clear scriptural mandate for this kind of ministry. Please read and pray through the following verses, which will help you understand the role you are undertaking. This is no doubt front-line spiritual warfare, and you will want to pray through the thoughts you express in your letter.
